Seachange Lodge Resort (a Private Holiday Home plus 6 luxury self-contained holiday apartments), is being raffled, to provide non-repayable high-school education grants to children who will never see the inside of a high-school classroom without outside assistance.

After spending two weeks holidaying in Vanuatu in 2007 I was moved immensely by the lack of education opportunities for the children and the passion the adults we met had in providing education opportunities in sometimes the simplest and primitive way possible. Such as a simple straw hut for a kindergarten built by the chief in his small village on the island of Tanna. Coming from Australia where education is considered a right for all, I vowed then I would find some way to support these wonderful people bring education to their children. Serendipitously, we chanced upon Seachange Lodge at the end of our trip and met Rick and Wendy who, I was delighted to realise, were active in raising funds to educate children in other outer islands. Now, buying a ticket in the draw, means we have found a way to put our support into action too.

I bought a ticket because I value what you are doing. I am so impressed with your altruism and desire to make a positive difference to people through education. As a teacher librarian in a primary school with some significant social problems, I am part of this process everyday . We have a quote on our staff room wall which goes something along the lines of “Even on your worst day you are some child’s best hope”. I believe you are giving the best form of power and that is knowledge. I believe there is already a great deal of wisdom and knowledge in the ni-Vanuatu culture but recognize that young people will need to be able to move between cultures.

Having become acquainted with Rick and Wendy during our two stays with them at Seachange Lodge in 2007 and seeing at first hand the sorting of materials to be sent to communities in the northern islands of Vanuatu we knew that any contribution we might make by way of ticket purchase would be going to a good cause. We have seen for ourselves the lack of resources in the schools on the southern islands of Tanna and Futuna and know that the problem is a general one in Vanuatu, but especially in the outer islands. We would encourage anyone with an interest in helping children receive an education to purchase a ticket and of course, there is always the possibility of owning Seachange Lodge! We know that we could quite happily take up residence there and continue our own involvement with the people of Vanuatu, helping out in our own small way.

The main reason I purchased a ticket was I would like to win the Resort and what a great opportunity It's much better odds than the Aussie lottery. It helps to know that YouMe Support Foundation is assisting the children from the outer islands of Vanuatu. They will have an opportunity to further their education. I wouldn't mind a $1000 windfall either.
